Hey, why not "go with the flow" and turn it into an indoor pool? If the water is clean and clear from the lake, why not take out one of the underground walls and dig out a patio to let the light shine in and have a pool!

Fascinating. I figured it was just a water tank like many houses used to have that didn't have a well (many rural homes still do have water tanks, of course!) and weren't connected to any city water supply. Sometimes they were fed by cisterns, but if this one was fed by one of the Great Lakes, they wouldn't need that. I hope that they won't be too disappointed if they cannot remove the water permanently or make the room leakage-proof. Will be interested to hear how it turns out! Thanks!

I wonder if there are corpses from the Prohibition Days that are stuck in a drain somewhere down there.

WOW! Gotta say these people had some cojones to get into that water. I can think of all sorts of terrible possibilities, from getting sucked into that pipe that goes to the lake (OK, the water was coming IN not going out, but still----), to contaminated water, or alien critters, maybe even a sea monster or two. Would you get ME down there? NO frickin' way! But the real possible reason for it being there? Hopefully they'll learn something from their asking for any information and we'll hear the outcome.
